The outlines of the Multifunctional Sports Hall of Szeged take shape gradually

Each of the ten main girders have been inserted in time and the entire monolithic and precast structural elements of the building were put in place, marking the completion of the entire system of grandstands. The prefabricated reinforced concrete elements needed to accomplish the Multifunctional Sports Hall of Szeged were produced by Grabarics Vasbeton. The largest ones span three storeys and each weighs 38 tons.

The Arena in figures

The Multifunctional Sports Hall of Szeged consists of three buildings whose aggregate useful floor area totals to 29,000 sq.m. One of the buildings accommodates the "Pick" handball academy where 1500 hand-ball fans can cheer for their teams in the smaller training hall.

8,300 viewers can take seat in the Arena provided with 3+1 gates on the ground floor and an additional gate on the first floor. The most acute deficiency of the former sports hall will be eliminated by establishing a 555-bay parking lot. Beyond that, 14 buses can be parked and 277 cyclist can find safe places for their bikes.

Demolition of the former stadium necessitated removal of 12,000 cu.m. soil and 4,200 sq.m slag-covered ground, beyond the wrecking of buildings having more than 13,000 sq.m floor area. The foundation of the new sports hall consumed almost 6,000 cu.m. concrete and 1,100 tons of steel reinforcement. The total weight of the steel supporting structures is 2,400 tons. The 29 meter headroom inside the grand hall offers a really imposing spectacle.
